At an event held on April 22nd in Seattle about the "shifting" market. Gary Keller discusses the market with "Darby". Gary discussed that it is the perfect storm right now to be a Buyer. Interest rates are as low as the have ever been in 50 years! Prices are a great value now + if you qualify for the first time home owner tax credit you can get $8,000 in FREE money. Gary Keller also mentioned that the national average of first time home buyers is also at an all time high. 50% of all buyers right now are buying for the first time!

Bring your body, bring your smile, we will bring the bright red wigs. In attempt to brighten up the lives of folks in Ballard and bring attention to our amazing hero Darby Affeldt, we are planning our first of several attacks. We will assemble an Army of Darby "look-a-likes" first thing Saturday April 4th and begin a raucous stroll through the streets of Ballard. This random act of chaos and laughter should last about an hour and is intended to garner considerable media attention.

If you would rather show your support by buying one of Darby's last remaining properties at 4% interest rates, contact troy@troysrealestate.com and insist he sell you something!

Neighborhood Block Party - Everyone's Invited

This Saturday afternoon from 1-3 we are shutting down 14th from 70th to 67th for a giant block party. There will be a ton of activities for the entire family. Pull out the BBQ, or enjoy fresh crepes from Anita's. The Seattle Fire Department is bring out the Ladder truck and will have badges and other gifts for the kids. Zipcar will be there as well with the neighborhood car. Meet Darby and her family and get a tour of the latest in modern green building as well. Did we mention that Bella Umbrella, Space to Create, and Caprice Kitchen will be there as well. (They are just a couple of cool businesses tucked in around the corner.) Bella Umbrella is the only vintage umbrella company in the United States and is sold in 500 stores around the world. They too will be giving away a free umbrella to a lucky winner ($100 value).

The sun will be out and we hope you will be as well.

Darby Army Plans Urban Assault This Saturday!

We invite you to join the fun!

Join us in placing smiles on peoples faces. Imagine the looks on peoples faces when they realize that there are hundreds of redheads waiting to cross Market Street or buy a cupcake at Cupcake Royale.

Meet us at 9:00 April 4th in the center of Ballard at the statue park as we set up for our first assault. Join others as we don a red wig and begin our leisurely stroll through the streets of Ballard. Smile, wave, and possibly break out in song.

This public demonstration of chaos and joy will help us gain media coverage and allow us to bring much needed attention to our hero mermaid Darby. It should also provide you with hundreds of new friends that share at least one bizarre memory.

We look forward to serving with you.

Spot Darby: What are you most proud of about being a builder?
Darby:

I am extremely proud of Lippincott Construction, Inc, and each and every home that I have built. For years I have endured in an extremely challenging career for a woman. I built it on honesty and integrity, and I put more money into finishes than necessary, but I smile when I think about all those people who love their homes that I built. Even though the economy hasn’t been kind as of late, I am proud of who I am and what I built, and nobody can take that away.

SpotDarby: Why do you think people are buying your homes now?
Darby:

Above all, because I am not a “big, bad, evil, rich builder”. My homes are beautiful homes, built with love, and priced fairly. www.newhometrends.com analyzes every inch of data that they can find, and they predict that many homes in Seattle will DOUBLE in value by 2012-2013. These last few homes, I built your for free - everyone got paid except me.

SpotDarby: Tell us about your family.
Darby:

Christian is an amazing person. He is a horse Veterinarian - it was perfect! The kids are so very dear and for the most part happy, but they had a sad story. Their Mom fell to her death while climbing in 2006. They were still grieving when I met them. We fell in love, and although I did not wish to move from Seattle to Centralia, the choice was easier because I love my new family so much.

Emme is 10. She is incredibly smart, so we want to put her into a private school. She loves to play softball and soccer, and wants to become a Doctor when she grows up.

Truman is 6, loves art, and is amazingly artistic. He loves cats so much he says he wants to be a cat only Veterinarian when he grows up - just like Mommy and Daddy!

SpotDarby: How did you start out?
Darby:

I started Lippincott Construction Inc in 1997, and knew nothing about building. I am a Veterinarian, and still practice part time. I bought a fixer upper in Wallingford in 1997, learned to fix it all up myself, then loved it so much I sold it and bought another. And so it went until I bought a house with an empty lot. I would live in my fixer uppers, with just a bed, a microwave and a refrigerator. I look back and wonder how I did all that! I was 27, ambitious, and just really loved construction. I read a book about how to be a builder, and on that lot I built a house. That house sold immediately, so I approached a bank and begged them to loan me money to build another one. I was tired of moving to fixers, and wanted to stay put and try my hand at building. It was an incredible journey for the next 10 years! I built single family homes, and many town homes. I was very good at it, and I loved working with subs. For many years I just called building my “hobby” because I never ever did it for the money - it was for the love of it.

The Anderson Family Launches Red Wig Festivities

We thought it would be fun to start an online challenge to have folks don a red wig and become a Darby too. The idea is that we invite folks to take a quick picture of themselves in a red wig and email us proof of such photo, and change their profile picture on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and others with a link back to here. Depending on the creativity displayed, we would then reward such crazy behavior with free stuff.

Who better to start us off then the Realtor responsible for selling the last of her homes! Here is Troy Anderson and his entire family.

SpotDarby: What is it like being married to Darby?
Christian: She is amazing. When I first started meeting friends and acquaintances of hers, they all said the same thing over and over, "she is amazing" and "I have never met anyone like her." Obviously, a guy like me who was looking for a special woman is going to get it. It really backed up what I thought, she is amazing, special and there is no one quite like her. Now that I am married to her, life has been busy beyond belief, from her extremely stressful job to my not so less stressful job at times to raising two kids and starting a family again. It has been crazy but there has also been so much good, so much happy that was not here without her. I know she doesn't see it, as she was not here for the time I didn't have a wife and the kids did not have a mom but we appreciate her immensely and love her here. She is an animal when it comes to getting things done. I cannot believe the stress she has worked under and still keeps on going trying to come out the other side with at least her pride. She is inspiring to me as well in the way she keeps it all together, from general contractor to mother to wife to lover to athlete, she really gets it all done somehow. And after a crazy busy day, and all that has gone on, as we are going to bed she becomes one of the giggliest women you have ever met. Her smiles and giggles make it all worth it.

SpotDarby: What do you love most about Darby?
Christian: When she smiles at me and in her eyes I can see that she absolutely adores me and being in love with me.

SpotDarby: What amazes you about Darby?
Christian: Some more amazing things about her are her athletic abilities. I am no slouch but have to pedal my butt off to keep up with her on the road. Sometimes I think she would work out 24/7 if she had the time.

SpotDarby: Can you share something bizarre about her?
Christian: Her calves are bizarrely big, I get to see them a lot as I am trying to keep up on the bike. They would win any body-building competition, hands down, no sweat.

SpotDarby: Any surprises from Darby after the wedding?
Christian: She thought she was going to done building and quickly moving on selling her multitude of townhomes by March or April of 2008 and could move on to her new life with us in Centralia. Here we are a year later. Oh yeah, another big surprise, she likes to have cats sleep in the same bed as her, now that is a problem!
